What You Need to Know

  1. 01

    New format

Every offensive player runs the ball once before the team switches to defense. Sub defensive players freely to keep everyone fresh and engaged.

  2. 02

    Fun comes first

Remember why we're here: fun, fun, and more fun.

  3. 03

    Fit, cut & tape belts

Before your first practice, fit each belt, cut off the excess and tape it, with flag sockets facing out. Untaped belts loosen and dangle — and defenders end up pulling the extra strap instead of the flag.

  4. 04

    One formation, set cones

Bring your labeled cones to every game and practice. There's one formation with no motions or shifts; once set, the cones stay put all game.

  5. 05

    Teach the rotation

Practice the player rotation every day so game time runs smoothly for everyone.

  6. 06

    One-hour time slots

Settle in for 5–10 minutes; kickoff no later than 15 minutes past the start. Aim for 2–3 carries per child. Games end 5 minutes before the hour, no matter what, so teams can shake hands and clear the field.

  7. 07

    Whistles & coaches

One coach on offense and one on defense carry whistles — blow only for a touchdown or a fumble. Even if a flag is pulled, let the runner reach the end zone. Up to two coaches per team on the field; on offense the second coach stands in the end zone as a target.
